Hongyadong Title: Hongyadong, Chongqing — The Cliffside Complex That Lights Up at Night Meta: An 11-storey stilt-house complex built into the cliff above the Jialing River. What it is, when it lights up, where to stand for the photo, and why locals both mock and love it. Definition: Hongyadong is an 11-storey complex of Bayu-style stilt houses built into the cliff face at the edge of Chongqing's Yuzhong Peninsula, above the Jialing River near Jiefangbei. Its stacked terraces of restaurants, bars and shops light up at night, making it the city's most photographed landmark. Facts: Location: Cangbai Road area, Yuzhong · Nearest rail: Linjiangmen / Jiaochangkou · Time needed: 45–90 min · Best time: dusk (lights from around 19:00) · Cost: public levels free. Visit well: Enter from the top (11th floor is street level — that's Chongqing), walk down through it, and take the classic shot from across the road or the Qiansimen Bridge. The inside is largely a mall; the architecture and the night view are the real exhibit. Daytime is for the cliff-and-river reading with a guide; night is for the lights.
