Quick Answer

Wulong Karst, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape about 3 hours by road from Chongqing city, is built around three giant natural stone bridges — Tianlong, Qinglong and Heilong — spanning a green gorge you walk through on a roughly 3 km trail. Most visitors day-trip it; staying overnight in Xiannvshan town adds the Longshuixia Fissure Gorge, Furong Cave and the Fairy Mountain grassland without the rush. Go in the morning, walk the valley downhill, and never trust a "1-hour Wulong" add-on sold with city tours.

The Sights, in Order of Importance

  1. Three Natural Bridges — the headline. Three limestone arches in sequence over the Yangshui River gorge, with the old Tianfu post-house courtyard in the middle (the Curse of the Golden Flower set piece) and Transformers 4 fame at the entrance pit. The trail descends into the gorge and walks its length: mostly downhill, 2–3 hours at camera pace.
  2. Longshuixia Fissure Gorge — the crack beneath the bridges: waterfalls and a narrow slot canyon, about 1.5 hours. Pairs with the Bridges on a long day or day one of two.
  3. Furong Cave — one of China's major show caves: vast chambers, stone waterfalls, constant cool air. The connoisseur's pick and the rainy-day insurance.
  4. Fairy Mountain (Xiannvshan) — alpine-style grassland at roughly 1,900 metres: meadows, horses, cool summers, occasional winter snow. The overnight base town sits below it.

Practical Notes

FAQ

  1. Is Wulong the place from Transformers? Yes — the fourth film shot at the Bridges' entrance pit; the post house is from Zhang Yimou's Curse of the Golden Flower. The landscape outlasts both.
  2. Can I combine Wulong and Dazu in one day? No — they're in opposite directions, about 5 hours apart by road. Two days minimum, or pick by taste: landscape (Wulong) vs art (Dazu).
  3. Is it suitable for children / older travellers? The Bridges trail, yes with the lift and a sensible pace; the Fissure Gorge's stairs are the demanding part — we adjust per person, in writing, before you book.
